Câu tường thuật (Reported Speech)

Câu tường thuật là gì?

Khi bạn kể lại lời người khác nói, bạn có thể dùng:

Lời nói trực tiếp (Direct Speech):

She said, "I am tired."

Câu tường thuật (Reported Speech):

She said that she was tired.

Câu tường thuật thay đổi một số từ và thì của câu gốc.

Các động từ dẫn lời thường dùng

Sự khác biệt SAY vs TELL:

• She said (that) she was tired. ✅
• She told me (that) she was tired. ✅
• She told (that) she was tired. ❌ (tell cần tân ngữ người)

Sự lùi thì (Backshift)

Khi chuyển sang tường thuật, thì thường lùi lại một bậc:

Tường thuật câu hỏi

Câu hỏi Yes/No → whether / if

ask + S + whether/if + S + V (thì lùi, trật tự câu khẳng định)

"Are you OK?"	He asked if I was OK.
"Did she pass?"	She asked whether he had passed.
"Will you come?"	He asked if I would come.

Câu hỏi có từ để hỏi (wh-questions)

ask + S + wh-word + S + V (thì lùi, trật tự câu khẳng định)

"Where do you live?"	She asked where I lived.
"What did he say?"	I asked what he had said.
"When will you arrive?"	He asked when I would arrive.

Lưu ý: Câu hỏi tường thuật dùng trật tự câu khẳng định (S + V), không đảo ngược!

• ❌ She asked where did I live.
• ✅ She asked where I lived.

Tường thuật câu mệnh lệnh

Anna: What did your boss say at the meeting? (Sếp bạn nói gì ở cuộc họp vậy?)

Ben: He said that the project was going well. He told us that we had done a great job. (Ông ấy nói dự án đang tiến triển tốt. Ông ấy nói với chúng tôi rằng chúng tôi đã làm tốt lắm.)

Anna: Did he say anything about the deadline? (Ông ấy có nói gì về hạn chót không?)

Ben: Yes, he asked when we would finish. He also warned us not to rush the final report. (Có, ông ấy hỏi khi nào chúng tôi xong. Ông ấy cũng cảnh báo chúng tôi đừng vội với báo cáo cuối.)

Anna: What about the new budget? (Còn ngân sách mới thì sao?)

Ben: He explained that the company had increased the budget. He said he would send us the details the next day. (Ông ấy giải thích rằng công ty đã tăng ngân sách. Ông ấy nói ông ấy sẽ gửi chi tiết cho chúng tôi ngày hôm sau.)

Lỗi hay mắc
